Founding pastor of The Well Community Church, international speaker, and author of Walking With A Limp, part of The Anatomy of a Disciple Series.
A native of Fresno, California and former Fresno State defensive lineman, Bell lived the stereotypical life of a college athlete until 1993, when he starting living for Jesus. In a time when drinking was common and drug use highly acceptable, he realized his depravity and need for a Savior.
Upon completing his undergraduate degree in Health Science from California State University, Fresno in May 1995, Bell moved to Denton, Texas to participate in a discipleship program. In Texas, he met and married his bride Jen. After receiving his Masters of Arts in Biblical Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary in May 1999, he returned to his hometown with his bride where they currently live with their two daughters, Peyton and Kendall.
Bell founded The Well Community Church in Fresno in 2002. With with no financial support, no staff, and no building – and against all odds, he grew his ministry one disciple at a time. Today, The Well Community Church is an equipping, multisite church with four local campuses and regional church plants across California’s Central Valley, sharing a common mission: helping people connect to God and to each other in every neighborhood. Inspired by Bell’s vision and leadership, the church ministry has birthed multiple self-supporting non-profit organizations and continues to work alongside several others in the community.
However, it was Bell’s scandalous life changed by grace that inspired his ministry for the broken. He wanted to model the same grace and love that Jesus had shown to the woman of questionable character at the well, all the while speaking authentic truth (John 4). Having watched God-loving people just quit, exhausted from the ongoing spiritual cycle of try-to-be-good and fail, try-harder-to-be-good and fail, Bell set out to teach others that God can make beauty from ashes in his book, Walking With A Limp.
While Bell’s passion for discipleship has taken on many forms, he will never be afraid to punch you in the face and pick you back up. Known for his gritty, dynamic teaching of God’s Word, Bell is a natural catalyst for authentic spiritual growth in believers, no matter who they are or where they have been.
